You just never know
“This can't be true! I mean I just saw him not even six hours ago!” Mia shouted.
“I'm sorry ma’am, but we have evidence proving that he is somehow involved with the recent crimes around the neighboring areas.” the officer replied.
“Officer, are you sure it’s him, there has got to be some kind of mistake. Charles would never commit a crime, let alone multiple ones.” Mia asked.
“As I just stated we have evidence against him, so if he contacts you or shows up here call me right away.” he replied as he handed her a card with his personal number on it.
Mia took the card and closed the door as he exited the house. She let her body slide down to the floor and sat silently with her head between her legs.
“What the fuck is Charles thinking?” she thought to herself.
Mia sat in that position for about ten minutes before climbing to her feet and going into the front room. Grabbing her phone off of the table she said down on the couch and let out a long sigh. There were no notifications and no missed calls from Charles or anyone else for that matter. She went into her call log and tapped the dial button the other end rang and rang until the voicemail picked up.
"Come on Charles pick up the phone, I need to know what is going on and if you're alright." Mia mumbled tossing her phone on the couch cushion next to her.
The officer had said they had evidence of multiple crimes but wouldn't give anymore details. How could the man that she had been living with for the past five years be involved in any type of crime? Charles Martin was the sweetest man on the planet, he was kind, caring and thoughtful. Mia had never even heard him raise his voice before, everyone that they came across loved him and the positive energy that he gave off. Mia grabbed the tv remote and turned to her local news channel hoping that it would give her some insight on the crimes that the police were talking about. On her sixty inch tv screen was a picture of Charles with the word wanted in all capitol bold letters.
Mia turned the volume up and listened to what the reporter had to say.

Is this the end?
There was a low rumble in the sky that led me to believe that the storm was getting closer. As the emergency alarm sounded off, people rushed to finish putting the wooden boards against their windows hoping that it would lessen the damage. Blankets, flashlights and snacks were taken into the basement ahead of time in case it was a long wait.
"Why did we live somewhere where we had to take shelter from the weather?" I questioned myself, but I wouldn't dare ask aloud.
It looked to me as though my parents had enough to worry about at the moment. With extra batteries and flashlights in my arm, I made my way back into the basement and got comfortable along side the wall away from the windows.
